WSJF for JiraCloudSetup

Setting up WSJF for Jira Cloud

After installing and enabling the WSJF for Jira plugin, you’ll need to make sure the WSJF fields are visible on your issue screens. This allows your team to input values and see the calculated WSJF score, which helps prioritize work based on its value and urgency.

Adding WSJF Fields to Screens

The WSJF plugin automatically creates custom fields in Jira for you:

  • Input Fields: Time Criticality, Business Value, Risk Reduction/ Opportunity Enablement, and Job Size
  • Output Field: WSJF (this field automatically displays the calculated score based on your input values)

You’ll need to add these fields to your project screens to start using them. Here’s how:

Team-Managed Projects

Team-managed projects allow teams to manage their own workflows and fields with greater flexibility. You’ll need to manually add the WSJF fields to your issue screens.

  1. Navigate to your project
  2. Go to Project Settings
  3. Select to Issue Types
  4. Select an Issue Type
  5. Add the WSJF fields (Time Criticality, Business Value, Risk Reduction/ Opportunity Enablement, Job Size, and WSJF) to the Issue Type
  6. Repeat steps 2-3 for the remaining Issue Types

Company-Managed Projects

In company-managed projects, administrators have central control over project configuration and workflows. You have the option to add the WSJF fields automatically or manually.

Automatic Method (Recommended)

We have automated the process of making fields visible in company-managed projects. You can add fields to screens from two locations - the Getting Started page or from Project Settings:

Adding Fields from the Getting Started Page

  1. Go to Apps in the navigation bar and select WSJF for Jira
  2. Select the projects to which you wish to add the WSJF fields

Adding Fields from the Project Settings Page

  1. Navigate to your project
  2. Go to Project Settings
  3. Select WSJF for Jira settings
  4. Click Add fields to screens

Manual Method

You can also add fields manually in company-managed projects.

  1. Navigate to your project
  2. Go to Project Settings
  3. Navigate to the Issue Layout page
  4. Click to edit a specific Issue Layout
  5. Add the WSJF fields to the Issue Layout (Time Criticality, Business Value, Risk Reduction/ Opportunity Enablement, Job Size, and WSJF) to the Issue Type
  6. Click Save to save the Issue Layout

Ensuring Users Have Permissions (Optional)

Your Jira users will need the following permissions to work with WSJF:

  • Edit Issues: To input WSJF values.
  • Schedule Issues: To sort issues by WSJF score.

These permissions are usually configured correctly by default. If you need to check:

  1. Go to Jira Settings (gear icon) > Issues > Permission schemes.
  2. Select the permission scheme used by your project.
  3. Verify that the relevant users, groups, or roles have the Schedule Issues and Edit Issues permissions.
