Setting up WSJF for Jira Data Center
After installing and enabling the WSJF for Jira plugin, you’ll need to make sure the WSJF fields are visible on your issue screens. This allows your team to input values and see the calculated WSJF score, which helps prioritize work based on its value and urgency.
Making WSJF Fields Visible
The WSJF plugin automatically creates custom fields in Jira:
- Input Fields: Time Criticality, Business Value, Risk Reduction/Opportunity Enablement, and Job Size (if the Story Points field is not available).
- Output Field: WSJF (this field automatically displays the calculated score based on your input values).
To start using these fields, you need to add them to your project screens and boards.
1. Check Your WSJF Configuration
First, verify which fields the plugin uses in your project. It’s important to check the Job Size setting. The plugin can be configured to use Jira’s built-in Story Points field, a separate Job Size field created by the plugin, or any other custom field.
- Navigate to your project
- Go to Project Settings
- Select WSJF for Jira settings
- Note the custom fields mapped to WSJF inputs
2. Add WSJF Fields to Screens
Adding WSJF fields to screens ensures they are visible when creating and editing issues. Here’s how:
- Go to (A) Jira Administration and select (B) Issues
- Scroll down and click on (C) Screens
- Select the Screen Scheme that your project uses and click (D) Configure
- (E) Add the WSJF fields to the Screen Scheme. Add the Story Points field if it is not already visible. Make sure the setting “Show when empty” is enabled
3. Add WSJF Fields to Boards
Adding the custom fields to your board’s Issue Detail view allows users to easily edit issues directly from the backlog or sprint view. To add fields:
- Go to (A) Boards and open the board you wish to configure
- Click (B) Board and then (C) Configure
- On the Board Configuration page, navigate to (D) Issue Detail View
- (E) Add the WSJF custom fields to the list
- The visibility of the Story Points field can be configured by navigating to the (F) Estimation section on the left-hand side of the menu.
